Element family
Halogen
Group 17 — fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine — one electron short of a full shell, and ruthless about filling it. The strongest oxidisers in the table run this family: they bleach, disinfect, salt your food (as chloride) and form salts with nearly every metal. Their reaction with Group 1 is the textbook ionic bond.
