The 4f row — lanthanum to lutetium — pulled below the table for typographic mercy. Chemically similar (their filling 4f electrons hide beneath the outer shell), they are the quiet workhorses of modern tech: neodymium in every strong magnet, europium and terbium in screens, erbium amplifying the internet's fibre signals.
