Carbon chemistry

Physical change — ভৌত পরিবর্তন

Quick answer

A change of form — state, shape, dissolving — with no new substance made; ice melting or sugar dissolving stay the same chemicals.

Definition

In a physical change a substance changes form — state, shape, size or dissolving — but its chemical identity stays the same, because no new substance forms and no bonds break or remake between atoms. Melting ice, tearing paper, boiling water, dissolving sugar are all physical changes, and each one is usually reversible: evaporate the water and the sugar comes back. A nail hammered flat is still iron.

For example

Freezing ice cubes, crushing them, and letting them melt again in a glass is a full round trip of physical changes — always H2O\mathrm{H_{2}O}.
