The 5f row — actinium to lawrencium — the radioactive underbelly of the table. Thorium and uranium are the famous ones (fuel, dating, risk), but the family's later members exist mainly as laboratory-made traces, some just a few atoms at a time. Their instability is itself a lesson in nuclear structure.
