Alkali metal

The Group 1 metals — lithium, sodium, potassium and their reactive relatives. One loose valence electron makes them the eager beavers of the metal world: soft enough to cut with a knife, fizzing violently in water, never found free in nature. Their story is the clearest lesson in how electron structure drives behaviour.
