Uses of Tungsten (W) in Everyday Life
From the Tungsten page's study notes: Tungsten (W) serves in alloys, infrastructure and the technologies of daily life. The full list, with Bangladesh examples, sits below.
Teachers call it "one fact, fully handled" — exactly what this page does for Tungsten. The answer sits at the top in bold; scroll for the working, the shell-by-shell breakdown and the two questions students ask most. Need the whole picture instead — history, characteristics, uses, exam questions? The full Tungsten page is one click away.
Tungsten at work around you
Every use below comes straight from the full Tungsten study page, where each point also carries the chemistry behind it and an exam-style question. Skim the list here; open the full page when revision time comes.
Uses of Tungsten in the study notes
- Incandescent light-bulb filaments — still stocked in every hardware shop — glowing at 2500–3000 °C, plus heating elements in ovens and kilns.
- Non-melting electrodes for TIG (argon-arc) welding, where the electrode must carry a blazing arc without ever dripping.
- Tungsten carbide (WC) tool tips: the drill bits chewing concrete and steel on construction sites, lathe cutting inserts, masonry nails — and the rolling ball in many a ballpoint pen.
- The spinning target anodes of hospital X-ray tubes, plus dense counterweights and armour-piercing penetrators where lead-grade density must survive violent shock.
Where you meet it
- Any hardware shop still stocks filament bulbs, and the coiled wire glowing inside each one is tungsten.
- The drill biting concrete at a Dhaka high-rise site almost certainly runs on a tungsten-carbide tip; many ballpoints roll on a carbide ball too.
- Every X-ray picture from a hospital is born when electrons slam into a tungsten target inside the tube.

Why is Tungsten important in Bangladesh?
The full study page connects Tungsten to Bangladeshi life — school labs, local industries, health and the NCTB syllabus. This quick-answer page is the fast summary; the element page is the full story.
Where will I meet Tungsten in the NCTB exam?
Questions on Tungsten's uses are a recurring pattern in Class 9–10 and HSC chemistry. The element page ends with six exam-style questions in both languages — practise those and this pattern stops costing marks.
